The thermometric determination of Grignard reagent concentration

Abstract

Two simple thermometric procedures have been applied to the quantitative analysis of Grignard reagents. In the first method the Grignard reagent was titrated with a standard solution of isopropyl alcohol and the end-point located by monitoring the temperature change. In the other method a single measurement of temperature was made after reacting the Grignard reagent with an excess of isopropyl alcohol. The maximum temperature reading was then referred to a temperature scale directly calibrated in concentration units.
