Polarographic studies in molten LiNO3+NaNO3+KNO3. Part 1.—Half-wave potentials and diffusion coefficients

Abstract

Half-wave potentials and diffusion coefficients for the reduction of PbII, CdII, NiII and CoII ions have been determined at a dropping mercury electrode (d.m.e.) in molten LiNO3+NaNO3+KNO3 eutectic at 145°C. The results are compared with those obtained previously by other authors. The discrepancies, where they exist, are related to the effects of appreciable quantities of water, arising from the use of incompletely dried solvents and solutes added as hydrates, and chloride ions present in the melts used in previous investigations.
