Measurement of local concentrations of free radicals in amorphous matrices

Abstract

Further data supporting a previous assertion 1 that free radicals formed in the gamma-radiolysis of polymethylmethacrylate are trapped in spurs have been obtained. The technique used is to determine the local radical concentrations by measuring the width of the Lorentzian spin packets of the inhomogeneously broadened electron spin resonance lines. The value so obtained is compared with the average concentration over the sample found by a standard comparison method.
