Extension of the Hammick reaction to 2-pyridylacetic acid

Abstract

Sodium 2-pyridylacetate decarboxylates in boiling cyclohexanone, acetophenone, or benzaldehyde to yield, respectively, 1-α-picolylcyclohexanol (12%), methylphenyl-α-picolylmethanol (13%), or phenyl-α-picolylmethanol (24%).
