Cyclopropanes from αβ-unsaturated esters by the dimethylsulphoxonium methylide reaction

Abstract

Reaction between αβ-unsaturated esters and dimethylsulphoxonium methylide gives cyclopropane-carboxylic esters in good yield. A new and improved method, using NN-dimethylformamide as solvent, is described. The u.v. spectra of cyclopropane esters and ketones are discussed.
