The photochemical addition of alcohols to the double bond in Δ16-20-oxo-steroids

Abstract

Ultraviolet irradiation of Δ16-20-oxo-steroids in the presence of primary and secondary alcohols leads in Part TO Reduction of the double bond, and in part to formation of 16α-(1-hydroxyalkyl)-20-oxo-steroids. Related reactions are described.
