Some condensation products of (+)-menthofuran with carbonyl compounds
Abstract
(+)-Menthofuran (I) forms condensation products (II) with aldehydes and ketones. Their n.m.r. and mass spectra have been measured. Differences in the n.m.r. spectra of the 3- and 4-alkylcyclohexanone condensation products. (IIa), (IIb), and (IIc), and the cyclohexanone and cycloheptanone condensation products (IId) and (IIe) can be traced to the largely static conformation of the cyclohexane ring in the former type of compound.
