The chemistry of 2-azidotropone. Part I. Thermal and photochemical transformations
Abstract
2-Azidotropone has been prepared by two methods, and the products of its decomposition under a variety of conditions have been investigated. The primary product in all cases appears to be a keten, 7-oxohepta-2,4,6-trienenitrile, which either cyclises to o-salicylonitrile or reacts with protic solvents to give the corresponding carboxylic acid derivatives.
