The Biosynthesis of Eleagnine

Abstract

Radioactive eleagnine was isolated when DL-[α-14C]tryptophan and [1-14C]acetate were fed, in separate experiments, to Eleagnus angustifolia L. plants. Unambiguous degradations of the alkaloid show tryptophan and acetate to be precursors.
