Naturally-occurring thiophens. Part III. Synthesis of thienyl- and furyl-acetylene derivatives from cuprous acetylides

Abstract

A novel method for the synthesis of heterocyclic acetylenes, e.g., 2-formyl-5-(prop-1-ynyl)thiophen, junipal, from cuprous acetylides and iodo-heterocyclic derivatives is described. Examples of thienyl and furyl derivatives prepared by this method indicate a synthesis of general application.
