The orientation of the alkyl groups of the end rings of natural and racemic stercobilin

Abstract

Ethylmethylsuccinimide, derived from the end rings of natural stercobilin on oxidation, was compared by gas chromatography with authentic cis- and trans-isomers and found to be trans. This shows that the β-allkyl substituents of both end rings have trans configuration.
