Multimacrocyclic compounds. Part II. Pentabenzenoid cage compounds

Abstract

Trimerisation of bis(but-3-ynyl) benzene gave at least two isomeric trimers which contain five aromatic nuclei. One isomer co-crystallises with benzene, cyclohexane, and dioxan but not with hexane. This can be explained by the presence of a space in the molecular structure which will accommodate one solvent molecule of a suitable size.
