Studies of olefin formation in the pyrolysis of n-butyl bromide
Abstract
The efficiencies of propene and cyclohexene in inhibiting the chain component of the thermal decomposition of n-butyl bromide at 389° have been compared. The effect of inhibitor is to decrease the pressure change, hydrogen bromide, and total butene productions equally. At the condition of maximum inhibition the major olefinic product is but-1-ene. Mechanisms for the formation of the butenes are discussed.
