Heat of formation of phenyl benzoate and related bond dissociation energies

Abstract

The heat of combustion ΔHc° of phenyl benzoate has been measured in a static bomb calorimeter, and values for the standard heats of formation ΔHf°(c.)=–57·7 ± 0·5 and ΔHf°(g.)=–36·5 ± 0·9 kcal./mole. derived. Phenyl–carbon, phenoxy–carbon, and phenyl–oxygen bond dissociation energies in phenyl benzoate and related species are discussed.
