The infrared spectra of some benzimidazoline-2-thiones and benzimidazol-2-yl sulphides

Abstract

The infrared spectra of the benzimidazoline-2-thiones support the thione formulation for these compounds. The pattern of the skeletal stretching bands in the 1400–1650 cm.^–1 region differs from that regarded as characteristic of the benzimidazole nucleus. In addition there are strong bands near 1200 and 1500 cm.^–1 which may be associated with the presence of the thioamide system. The spectra of these compounds are contrasted with those of some benzimidazol-2-yl sulphides.
