Cobalt(II) and nickel(II) bisdiarsine diperchlorates and dinitrates

Abstract

The infrared data for the oxyanions in trans-MD2(ClO4)2 and MD2(NO3)2(M = Co and Ni) are presented and interpreted in terms of association of the anions with the metal ions. The bonding is stronger in the cobalt (d7) complexes than in the corresponding nickel (d8) complexes. The complex trans-CoD2(ClO4)2 exists in two crystalline modifications. Infrared and X-ray data suggest that the association of perchlorate ions is essentially covalent in one form and ionic in the other.
