Complexes of 1,2-bis(isopropylseleno)ethane with palladium(II) and platinum(II) halides

Abstract

The new bidentate selenium ligand, 1,2-bis(isopropylseleno)ethane, has been prepared, and its diamagnetic 1 : 1 complexes with palladium(II) and platinum(II) chlorides and bromides investigated. These complexes crystallise as monomers from acetone, and dimers from chloroform. On dimerisation, the monomeric bidentate chelated form undergoes rearrangement to give a selenium–ligand bridged system.

Infrared, n.m.r. ultraviolet, and visible spectra are reported, and the structures of the complexes considered.
