π-Allyl complexes prepared from conjugated dienes and palladium halides

Abstract

The preparation of a series of π-allyl complexes from the reaction of butadiene, isoprene, or piperylene with palladium halides in the presence of a carboxylic acid and a Group IA metal salt of this acid is described. Further members of the series were prepared by metathetical reactions. Evidence of the structure of the complexes from infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is discussed.
