Far-infrared spectra of halogen-bridged systems. Part I. [M2X6]2– ions of palladium and platinum

Abstract

Far-infrared spectra (60–400 cm.–1) of the ions [M2X6]2–(M = Pd, Pt; X = Cl, Br, or I), are assigned. Normal-co-ordinate analyses have been made for the in-plane infrared-active modes. Bond-stretching force constants for the bridge bonds vary from 75 to 100% of those for terminal bonds.
