A modification of the diaphragm cell technique for measurement of the diffusion coefficient of an electroactive species in the presence of supporting electrolyte

Abstract

A simple modification of the Stokes diaphragm cell technique is described which permits the measurement of the diffusion coefficient of an electroactive species, in the presence of excess of supporting electrolyte, in a matter of a few hours rather than several days. The technique has been applied to three systems, and a conductance test is used to ensure that the supporting electrolyte is present in sufficient excess.
