The preparation and magnetic properties of some oxy-bridged binuclear iron(III) Schiff-base complexes

Abstract

The preparation and magnetic properties over a temperature range of iron(III) oxy-bridged binuclear Schiff-base complexes have been studied. The magnetic properties have been analysed on a dipolar coupling mechanism and the interaction found to be virtually independent of the nature of the substituent on the Schiff base. Both the magnetism and stereochemistry of the complexes are interpreted on the basis of a strong linear Fe–O–Fe system. A qualitative discussion of the molecular orbital scheme within these molecules is given.
