The Mössbauer effect and chemistry. Part I. Spectra of octahedral cistrans-isomers and related compounds

Abstract

The Mössbauer spectra of a series of low-spin octahedral cistrans-isomers of iron(II) have been measured, and the results rationalised using the general expression for electric field gradients. Part of the series is made up of some new ethyl isocyanide complexes, and the study includes derivatives of formula [Fe(CN)(CNR)5]+. The cistrans isomerism reported for dicyanobis-(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) is discussed.
