Perfluorovinyl complexes of the nickel group

Abstract

Treatment of bis(triethylphosphine)nickel dichloride with perfluorovinylmagnesium bromide affords trans-(Et3P)2Ni(CF:CF2)Br and trans-(Et3P)2Ni(CF:CF2)2. Similarly, from cis-bis(triethylphosphine)platinum dichloride, a mixture of the compounds trans-(Et3P)2Pt(CF:CF2Br) and cis-(Et3P)2Pt(CF:CF2)Br is obtained. Perfluorovinyllithium reacts with cis-bis(triethylphosphine)platinum dichloride to give cis-(Et3P)2Pt(CF:CF2)2, and with trans-bis(triethylphosphine)palladium dichloride to give trans-(Et3P)2Pd(CF:CF2)2. Some related complexes containing the Pt·CCl:CF2 group have been synthesised. The 19F n.m.r. spectra of the new compounds are discussed.
