The synthesis of the active component of commercial Titan yellow for use in the determination of magnesium

Abstract

The sodium sulphonate groups of the magnesium-reactive component of a commercial Titan yellow are shown to be in the 7-position on each of the benzothiazole rings. Titan yellow synthesised from 2-(p-aminophenyl)-6-methylbenzothiazole-7-sulphonic acid is reliable and sensitive in the determination of magnesium.
