The determination by atomic-absorption spectroscopy of several elements, including silicon, aluminium and titanium, in cement

Abstract

A method is described for the rapid determination of silicon, aluminium, titanium, magnesium, iron, manganese, sodium, potassium, lithium and strontium in cement. The sample preparation consists of a hydrochloric acid digestion, followed by filtration, sodium carbonate fusion of the residue and aqueous dissolution of the fusion. National Bureau of Standards cements are treated as unknowns to establish the accuracy of the method. The nitrous oxide-acetylene flame and high brightness hollow-cathode lamps are used to determine several of the refractory oxide-forming elements.
