Inorganic thin-layer chromatography. Part II. Chromatography of some first row transition metals on thin layers of substrates impregnated with tributyl phosphate

Abstract

Several metal ions have been chromatographed on thin layers of cellulose and silica gel impregnated with tributyl phosphate at different concentrations of hydrochloric acid. The open nature of the cellulose results in the tributyl phosphate being held more firmly on this substrate than on the silica gel, and this in turn results in lower RF values. The RF values of the metal ions are also shown to vary with the concentration of the hydrochloric acid eluent.
