Primary photochemical processes in aromatic molecules. Part 14.—Comparative photochemistry of aromatic carbonyl compounds
Abstract
Quantum yields of photoreduction are correlated with spectroscopically determined energy levels of lowest singlet and triplet states for a range of aromatic carbonyl compounds. The interpretation of reactivity in terms of electron density distribution in the excited states, which was given earlier for benzophenone derivatives, is equally applicable to benzaldehydes, acetophenones, and to carbonyl derivatives of naphthalene and anthracene.
