Acidity constants of the hydrogen sulphate ion and of phosphoric acid

Abstract

The dependence of the value of the acidity constant of HSO4 on the assumed value of the mean ionic diameter, established experimentally by Covington et al., is explained quantitatively. An analogous, but much smaller, effect on the acidity constant of H3PO4, observed by Bates, is explained semi-quantitatively.
