Dielectric studies. Part 10.—Relaxation of two intermolecularly hydrogen bonded complexes

Abstract

The dielectric absorption at microwave frequencies and the static dielectric constant have been found for the two component systems of pyrrole and indole in cyclohexane and p-xylene solutions. Pyrrole has been examined in a 1 : 1 molar ratio with 1,4-diazobicyclo(2,2,2)octane (D.B.O.) in cyclohexane solution, and indole with D.B.O. in p-xylene solution. For both these systems the dielectric data have been analyzed into contributions from two relaxation times, the shorter one being identified with the molecular relaxation time of the amine and the longer with that of a 1 : 1 hydrogen-bonded complex between the amine and D.B.O.
