C—F bond dissociation energies in perfluorocarbon gases using negative ion appearance potential data

Abstract

The appearance potentials of F ions formed by electron impact in nine perfluorocarbon gases have been measured. The difficulties associated with low-energy attachment processes are discussed, and the appearance potentials are used to suggest the positions in the parent molecules from which the F atoms are ejected in the capture processes. Dissociation energies for the C—F bond in different groupings are evaluated and discussed.
