C—F bond dissociation energies in perfluorocarbon gases using negative ion appearance potential data
Abstract
The appearance potentials of F– ions formed by electron impact in nine perfluorocarbon gases have been measured. The difficulties associated with low-energy attachment processes are discussed, and the appearance potentials are used to suggest the positions in the parent molecules from which the F– atoms are ejected in the capture processes. Dissociation energies for the C—F bond in different groupings are evaluated and discussed.
