Kinetic model of reactions between ions in solution

Abstract

A method for computing reaction rates between ions in solution is developed and an explicit formula for the rates is found which is valid over a wide range of conditions. The results of Smoluchowski for the reactions between uncharged particles and of Debye for solutions containing small densities of reacting ions are obtained as special cases. The inconsistency which occurs when the Smoluchowski-Debye method is applied under more general conditions is eliminated.
