Interaction of electron acceptors with bases. Part 20.—Application of an n.m.r. method to determination of stability of some organic charge-transfer complexes in solution

Abstract

The association constants K of p-benzoquinone and 2, 5-dichloro-p-benzoquinone with a series of alkylbenzenes, and of various other electron acceptors with hexamethylbenzene have been determined in solution by an n.m.r. method. In a given solvent certain regularities are observed in the values of K. A change in solvent from carbon tetrachloride to 1,2-dichloroethane affects the value of K. However, not all complexes are affected to the same degree.
