Electron paramagnetic resonance of free radical intermediates in the radiation of frozen silver nitrate and silver sulphate solutions

Abstract

E.p.r. evidence is obtained for reduced silver ions, Ag° and Ag+2, and oxidized silver ions, Ag2+, in γ-irradiated frozen solution. The reducing species is attributed to mobile electrons which are chemically trapped by the solute, and the oxidizing species to the hydroxyl radical and the SO4 radical.
