Magnetic properties of the d7 configuration near the 4T1g-2Eg crossover

Abstract

Equations are known for the magnetic susceptibility of an ion with a d7 electronic configuration in an octahedral field, either in high or low spin states. For certain crystal field strengths there is extensive mixing of the high and low spin states and the conventional formulae connot be applied. The present work presents calculations of the magnetic moment in this region and relates the results to other discussions of the crossover problem.
