Solvent extraction studies of ion association. Some zinc systems

Abstract

The dissociation constants of the zinc dicarboxylates oxalate to adipate and tartrate at zero ionic strength and 25°C have been estimated from the distribution of zinc-65 between oxine in chloroform and aqueous phases at ionic strengths of 0.05, 0.075, 0.10 and 0.20. Oxalate, malonate and tartrate show two stages of association. Comparisons with previous data show the method to be reliable but with all methods more precise work is needed to reduce rather large uncertainties that exist.
