Alk-2-en-4-yn-1-ols and furans from alkali-metal acetylides and epichlorohydrin

Abstract

The preparation of trans-undec-2-en-4-yn-1-ol, trans-hept-2-ene-4,6-diyn-1-ol and trans-non-2-ene-4,6-diyn-1-ol from the reaction of alkali-metal acetylides and diacetylides with epichlorohydrin is described. 2-Furylallene and 1-(2-furyl)prop-1-yne, believed to originate from the cyclisation of cis-hept-2-ene-4,6-diyn-1-ol, were also isolated. trans-3-Chloroprop-2-en-1-ol is shown to be a by-product in the preparation of trans-pent-2-en-4-yn-1-ol.
