Studies relating to phthiocerol. Part VI. Stereochemical studies

Abstract

Erythro- and threo-decane-4,6-diol have been prepared as models for studies of the β-diols from the lipids of tubercle bacilli. Nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectral data of the synthetic diols and their ethylidene acetals are reported, and their configurations discussed. Comparative studies indicate that the natural products have threo-configuration in respect of the diol system.
