Isatogens. Part IV

Abstract

Spectroscopic evidence, degradation, and syntheses prove that certain highly coloured products obtained from o-nitrobenzoyl acetates and from o-nitrobenzoylacetone are indogenides and isatogens and thus do not have the structures previously assigned. A new product has been isolated from the reaction of methyl isatogenate and methyl o-nitrobenzoylacetate which suggests that in these reactions an isatogen functions as an oxidising agent.
