Perfluoroalkyl derivatives of nitrogen. Part XXIV. Perfluoroalkylnitroso-compounds from perfluoroacyl nitrites
Abstract
Trifluoroacetyl and heptafluoro-n-butyryl nitrite are prepared in high yield (92–97%) by treatment of the corresponding silver perfluoroalkanecarboxylates with nitrosyl chloride, and by reaction of the corresponding perfluoroalkanecarboxylic acid anhydrides with dinitrogen trioxide. Photolytic or pyrolytic decarboxylation of these perfluoroalkanoyl nitrites, which should be manipulated carefully since they explode violently when heated under certain conditions, gives trifluoronitrosomethane or heptafluoro-1-nitrosopropane in 59 and 91% yield, respectively.
