Isomerisation accompanying Friedel–Crafts alkylation. Part II. Further results with butyl ethers and alcohols

Abstract

The alkylation of benzene with di-isobutyl ether and with isobutanol at 80°, with aluminium chloride as catalyst, results in the formation of s- and iso-butylbenzenes, as well as the expected t-butyl isomer. The implication of this and allied results is discussed.
