Hydrolysis with silver resins: enhancement of hydrolysis rates of olefin esters by sulphonic acid resins containing silver ion

Abstract

The rate of hydrolysis of an olefin ester by a sulphonic acid resin partially exchanged with Ag+ is compared with the rate of reaction of a saturated ester. A marked enhancement of the reaction rate of the olefinic ester is found. The results are interpreted in terms of the increased concentration of ester within the resin due to complexing of the Ag+ and the olefin.
