Absorption spectra of ketones. Part VIII. The circular dichroism of some trimethylbicyclo[2,2,1]heptan-2-ones

Abstract

The circular dichroism of a series of derivatives of camphor and fenchone is reported. The appearance of two maxima of opposite sign in the curves from the latter, e.g., 5-oxofenchol, in polar solvents is attributed to complexing with the solvent, the complex absorbing at shorter wavelengths than the free ketone, and having opposite rotatory power.
