A photochemical reaction between tetrahydrofuran and maleic anhydride

Abstract

Irradiation of solutions of maleic anhydride in tetrahydrofuran using sunlight or ultraviolet light leads to the formation of a 1 : 1 (2-substituted furan) adduct. A donor–acceptor complex formed by the two reactants is suggested as the primary absorbing species.
