Dissociation constants of some ytterbium ion-pairs from cation-exchange resin studies

Abstract

From runs with fixed weights of resin and constant low ionic strengths (0·1 and 0·05), the distribution of traces of ytterbium (169 and 175) between Amberlite CG-120 and acetate, malonate, and sulphate solutions has been used to estimate the corresponding dissociation constants. These are in reasonable agreement with answers obtained by other methods. It also appears that the positively charged ion-pairs are not subject to much exchange by the resin phase.
