The preparation and spectral properties of complex oxochlorovanadates(IV)

Abstract

A variety of oxochloro-complexes of vanadium(IV) have been prepared by precipitation from aqueous alcoholic media. They are of the general types MI2VOCl4,xH2O (MI= pyH+, quinH+, isoquinH+, NH4+, K+, and Cs+; x= 0, 1, or 2) and MIVOCl3,xH2O (MI= Me4N+, Et4N+, quinH+; x= 0, 1·5, 2, or 3). The infrared spectra indicate that both types of complex (except where MI= K+ or NH4+) contain a vanadium–oxygen multiple bond. The diffuse-reflectance spectra of the complexes are reported.
