Ionisation and dissociation of trityl perchlorate in some non-aqueous solvents

Abstract

The infrared spectrum of crystalline trityl perchlorate shows it to be ionic in the solid state. Spectrophotometric study of its solutions reveals that it is completely ionised in chloroform, methylene dichloride, 1,1-dichloroethane, and 1,2-dichloroethane.

For the reaction Ph3C+ ClO4(solv) Ph3C+(solv)+ ClO4(solv) in 1,2-dichloroethane, the dissociation constant, (K2), ΔG°, ΔH°, and ΔS° have been calculated from conductance data.
