Chemistry of the metal carbonyls. Part XXXV. Bis(dicarbonyl-π-cyclopentadienyliron)bis(iodo)germane and related compounds

Abstract

Reaction between dicarbonyl-π-cyclopentadienyliron and germanium(II) iodide affords I2Ge[Fe(CO)2(π-C5H5)]2, which can also be made by treating germanium(IV) iodide with π-C5H5Fe(CO)2Na. The di-iodo complex reacts with methyl-lithium and with sodium borohydride to give the compounds X2Ge[Fe(CO)2(π-C5H5)]2(X = Me and H, respectively). The dichloro-derivative Cl2Ge[Fe(CO)2(π-C5H5)]2 has also been prepared, along with two analogous tin compounds. The infrared spectra of the complexes in the carbonyl region have been studied, and the number and relative intensities of the carbonyl stretching modes have been used to deduce probable structures.
