Compound formation and solubility of some aromatic hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon systems

Abstract

Solid–liquid phase equilibria have been determined in the binary systems of naphthalene, biphenyl, perfluoronaphthalene, and perfluorobiphenyl with perfluorobenzene and in the systems perfluoronaphthalene–benzene and perfluorobiphenyl–benzene. In all four hydrocarbon–fluorocarbon systems 1 : 1 compounds were formed exhibiting congruent melting with the exception of biphenyl–perfluorobenzene which is incongruent. The two fluorocarbon–fluorocarbon systems show solubility behaviour similar to that of the corresponding hydrocarbon–hydrocarbon systems. Deviations from ideality and the nature of the addition compounds are discussed.
