The formation of mixed-ion triplets in solution

Abstract

The association constant of an ion triplet, ABC, containing three different ions, in a solvent of low dielectric constant has been computed by an extension of the method first used by Bjerrum. The results have been applied to measured association constants and approximate values for the internuclear separations, rBC, calculated from recorded values for rAB. The calculated values are in reasonable agreement with those determined from the association constants for the symmetrical triplets, CBC.
