Tetraethylammonium tetrahalogenozincate(II) complexes with mixed halide ligands

Abstract

The complexes (Et4N)2ZnBrnCl4 –n, (Et4N)2ZnBrnI4 –n(n= 1, 2, or 3), (Et4N)2ZnCl2I2, and (Et4N)2ZnClI3 have been prepared, but (Et4N)2ZnCl3I could not be characterised. X-Ray powder photography has shown that the bromochloro-complexes have structures similar to (Et4N)2ZnCl4 and (Et4N)2ZnBr4 but not to (Et4N)2ZnI4, while the bromoiodo-complexes and (Et4N)2ZnClI3 have structures similar to (Et4N)2ZnI4. The infrared spectra (3100–2800 and 2000-750 cm.–1) of the complexes (Et4N)2ZnBrnCl4 –n(n= 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4) differ significantly from those of the iodo-complexes.
